WHY IS THERE A LEAP DAY

F ebruary 29 is a date that usually occurs every four years, and is called the leap day or leap year day. Usually, there are 365 days in a year when we add one more day to February during leap years it becomes 29, this extra day makes the year 366 days long. 2020 was the leap year, because February 29, 2020, was the last leap day. The next leap year will be February 29, 2024. Roman general Julius Caesar first introduces the concept of a leap day in 45 BC in his Julian Calendar, the earth revolves around the sun and it takes one orbit to complete in approximately 365.242189 days or 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds. That is 6 more hours excess in a year of 365 days. So, adjusting these 6 hours to every 4 years results in a leap year adding an extra day in February. So, in a leap year, the total time for the earth’s one complete rotation is 366 days. We would lose six hours every year without adding an extra day February 29 to every four years.
